Flu Vaccines

Service Coming Soon. Check Website For Updates.

At AR Pharmacy Lyndhurst we are able to offer a flu vaccination service to help protect people who are at high risk of flu and its various complications.

Why should I get vaccinated at AR Pharmacy Lyndhurst?

One common idea we come across is that the flu is just a bad cold, which is not the case. Flu is caused by an influenza virus which affects the lungs, and spreads itself airborne through coughs and sneezes. The most common symptoms are fever, chills, headaches, muscle and joint aches and pains, and extreme tiredness. Most healthy individuals can expect to make a recovery within a week but for some people the infection can lead to hospitalisation, severe disability, or death.

While flu can be extremely unpredictable, we do have a key tool to protect people – vaccination. Vaccination provides the best protection against severe illness.

You may qualify for a free NHS flu vaccination if you are:

  • 50 and over (including those who will be 50 by 31 March 2022)
  • Pregnant
  • Receive a carer’s allowance or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick
  • In a long-stay residential care home
  • Live with someone who’s at high risk from coronavirus (on the NHS shielded patient list)
  • Frontline health or social care workers
  • Aged 18-64 with certain health conditions
    • 1. Severe respiratory diseases such as Asthma, COPD or Bronchitis
    • 2. Chronic heart, kidney, liver, or neurological disease
    • 3. Weakened immune system as a result of disease
    • 4. Diabetes

For more information, visit the NHS website.

What happens if I’m not eligible for a free vaccination?

If you don’t fall into the above eligibility criteria, don’t worry! We offer a private flu jab for for just £10.

What flu vaccinations are available for children?

The NHS does offer flu vaccinations to all children, up to school year 11, or those under 17 who have a long term medical condition. This is usually offered by your school, GP, or community clinic. You can find more information online here. Some parents want to have their children vaccinated privately. The nasal spray vaccine is preferred and this costs £30. It is important to note that this is a live vaccine, and one of our qualified pharmacists will check it is suitable before vaccinating.
